Offerings to Mazu

Thian Hock Keng has prepared special offerings for devotees to celebrate the Birthday of Mazu and to thank Mazu for her blessings. Offerings include Mazu red bunting and lanterns, longevity noodles and buns, prosperity cake, sweet towers, Mazu crown and gown and birthday lanterns for devotees to purchase. Additionally, there is the Mazu birthday pack that includes longevity bun, Mazu joss papers and other offerings. You may download the order form below to make your purchase. Buddhist Ritual (梁皇宝忏)
24 – 26 April 2019: 9am – 5pm
To celebrate the birthday of Mazu, a Buddhist ritual (梁皇宝忏) will be held at Thian Hock Keng. This 3-day prayer ritual is for devotees to pay their respect and repent. All devotees are welcome.
27 April 2019: 8.30am – 5.30pm
Noon offering: 11am
Taoist Ritual will be held at Thian Hock Keng for devotees to pray for peace and harmony during the birthday of Mazu. All devotees are welcome and may also register person(s) to be blessed during the ritual. All registrants will bring home a specially prepared prayer pack comprising Mazu longevity noodle, fresh flowers and rice for blessings and good luck.
Li Dou Ceremony & Crossing the Bridge of Blessings
27 April 2019: 6.30pm
During this ceremony, devotees follow Taoist priests to go round the temple paying their respect to the deities with specially prepared li dou (礼斗) lamps in their hand. They will also be crossing the Bridge of Blessings.
Cultural Performances and Activities
During this 4-day festival to celebrate the birthday of Mazu Goddess of The Seas, there will be many activities such as guided tours about Thian Hock Keng as ‘An Architectural Masterpiece’ and the ‘Traditions of Mazu’s Birthday Celebrations’. Additionally, performances such as getai and traditional Hokkien string puppet shows are not to be missed out!
